Remote Multi-Day Complex Uroflowmetry (0811T, 0812T)

Two new Category III codes (0811T, 0812T) were added to the CPT 2024 code set for reporting remote multi-day complex uroflowmetry services. Uroflowmetry is the measurement of urine flow during urination. Other existing uroflowmetry codes describe simple uroflowmetry using nonautomated (eg, stop-watch flow rate, mechanical uroflowmeter) equipment (51736) and complex uroflowmetry using automated (eg, calibrated electronic) equipment (51741). These two new codes are used to report remote (eg, at home) multi-day complex uroflowmetry services. This article provides an overview of these changes.

Description of code 0811T, 0812T

0811T Remote multi-day complex uroflowmetry (eg, calibrated electronic equipment); set-up and patient education on use of equipment

0812T device supply with automated report generation, up to 10 days

(Do not report 0811T, 0812T more than once per episode of care)

(Do not report 0811T, 0812T in conjunction with 51736, 51741, 99453, 99454)

Reporting Codes 0811T and 0821T

Before 2024, there were no CPT codes to report remote multi-day complex uroflowmetry services, specifically equipment set-up and patient education on the use of equipment and device supply with automated-report generation. Remote complex multi-day uroflowmetry differs from remote physiologic monitoring (99453, 99454) because it does not involve continuous monitoring, is not used for data collection for more than 16 days, and is not considered a physiologic parameter (eg, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and respiratory flow rate)—all of which are required for reporting remote physiologic monitoring codes.

For remote multi-day complex uroflowmetry services, data can be typically collected for up to 10 days to survey patient activity, and the data provided are primarily for diagnostic purposes. Code 0811T describes the initial set-up and patient education on the use of the equipment, and code 0812T describes the supply of the device for up to 10 days with automated-report generation. Because code 0812T requires the supply of a device, it should be reported only if the data is collected by a device supplied by the reporting physician.

Two parenthetical notes were added following the new codes to instruct users to report the codes once per episode of care and to preclude the reporting of codes 0811T and 0812T with simple (51736) and complex uroflowmetry (51741) codes, as well as the physiologic monitoring codes (99453, 99454).

The following clinical examples and procedural descriptions reflect typical clinical scenarios for which these new codes would be appropriately reported.

Clinical Example (0811T)

A 50-year-old male presents with lower urinary tract symptoms. The physician prescribes a remote uroflow test for 7 to 10 days.

Description of Procedure (0811T)

The physician orders a remote multi-day uroflow test. The physician or clinical staff instructs the patient on the use of the device.

Clinical Example (0812T)

A 50-year-old male presents with lower urinary tract symptoms. The physician prescribes a remote uroflow test for 7 to 10 days.
