There are many important status codes used in diagnosis coding. Since the implementation of ICD 10 codes, older ICD 9 codes have been replaced with new ICD 10 codes. Hence, it is important to check all these new Status codes which will be used in the future by medical coders. As we know many ICD 9 V codes which were used previously are now replaced with Z codes in ICD 10. So, now we will check both the old V codes of ICD 9 and Z codes of ICD 10, which will be used by coders.
Difference between old ICD 9 and new ICD 10 codes
The new ICD 10 codes are very specific. Hence, we will have increase in the number of ICD 10 codes used in diagnosis coding. I have already shared many coding tips for ICD 10 codes in my previous post. But, Z codes are not easy to find. So, it will good if you understand the whole report and then check for the any Z codes. Once you are used to coding Z codes, you will become perfect in ICD 10 coding.
